  • In 10 weekly LIVE, online group sessions, we will dive into creative practices, group discussion, journaling and art activities, mindfulness tools and more.

  • NO ART EXPERIENCE REQUIRED! Seeds of Connection is always open to everyone - no need to consider yourself an "artist".  The focus of our time together is on the process, trying new things, and having fun - not on a finished product.

  • Give yourself the gift of intentional time for self-care and connection.  More than ever, we need to find ways to build our capacity and tap into our imaginations. These 10 weeks will be filled with creative possibilities, and FUN!  Plus lots of ideas for using art journaling as a self-care practice, as a tool for personal growth, or as a way to deepen your current art practice.

  • New to art journaling? This will be a great foundation to get you started.  The goal is for art journaling to feel accessible, affordable, and doable for everyone. No need to purchase a bunch of expensive supplies, either.  We'll use what you've got and you'll get  more thrifty (and free!) ideas as we go.

  • Been art journaling for a while?  You will almost certainly learn new tools and techniques to add fun to your creative practice.  This 10 weeks will enhance and deepen your art journaling skills.
Each group session is about 2 hours. Group sessions are not recorded.

Group sessions are held on Thursdays, 6-8pm (PST)
beginning August 14th
through October 16th

What participants have to say about creating in Seeds of Connection groups:

“I signed up for Crystals class. I hadn’t made a connection with my art in a while and was searching for the fuse to ignite my creativity again. I got that. I have learned from Crystal to just let the art flow! Instead of creating for a specific end product, i create as an outlet again.  I tried it and I love it,  it won’t be the last [time].”

"I was invited by a friend to join. I was intimidated by the art aspect but was looking for connection. I found that I was able to create art every time, even when it was difficult and intimidating at first. I feel like I am way more creative than I realized. I had forgotten how much I like to draw and I became more confident in my ability to create art and especially to use more color and in ways I never did before. Art became a playful and freeing experience and I am definitely making more time for it each week. I loved being in this group so much!"

What supplies will you need?

A detailed supply list will be sent out to everyone who registers.  Here are some of the basics:
  • Journal or book to use as an art journal
  • basic art supplies: scissors, glue, tape, markers/colored pencils
  • lots of paper - plain white, scrapbooking, junk paper, & more
  • gelli plate (any size) + brayer
  • acrylic paint in various colors and brushes
  • paint pens (black & white, others optional) Posca is my fave
  • optional: cardboard, stickers, washi tape, scrapbooking supplies

What you'll find in Seeds of Connection Art Greenhouse:

Content of each week will vary depending on who registers and what participants are most interested in learning and doing.  These are some of the things we have covered in the past:
  • Art journaling basics.
  • Creating a personalized library of marks.
  • Creating and adding to your “art pantry”.
  • Basic and advanced gel plate techniques.
  • Making your own collage papers.
  • Using household materials and repurposed items for art journaling on the cheap.
  • Using art journaling for personal growth and exploration.
  • Activities, prompts, and limits to enhance your art journaling.
  • Using natural materials in art journaling.
  • Letters, typeface, poetry, and words (oh my!) in art journals.
  • Bringing it all together. Applying techniques and skills to art pieces outside of the art journal.
"Art develops creative and imaginative capacity, which offers new ways of thinking. All of these lead to social change - and social justice.
Making art can feel good, and joy is an act of resistance."

-From ART CORPS' Social Justice Framework for Teaching Artists

Cost

Groups are currently offered using a tiered pricing structure.  The basic ideas behind tiered pricing are community care, equity, and accessibility.  If those of us who have access to more financial resources pay a little more, we offer care to our community and we make sure that self-care and healing work is accessible to all.
  • Sustainer level:  $350
  • Supporter level:  $425
  • Community Supported level:  $250
There are sometimes scholarship funds available for those who may not be able to contribute at these levels.  I prioritize scholarships for Black and Indigenous people, as well as transgender folks.  If you want to be in a group, I want you there!  Please reach out.  You can read more of my thoughts about Pay-What-You-Can pricing here.

Sustainer level

Cost: $350
This fee covers the actual cost of the course. Please select this price if you are able to pay the full cost of the course.

This is the price that feels right for those that can pay the full rate for a Seeds of Connection group while also sustaining their own financial health and wellbeing. It might squeeze a little to pay, but you can do it. You might be someone who has access to stable income, and can typically access self-care opportunities.

Supporter level

Cost:  $425
This "re-balancing" level of registration contributes a little extra to help make self-care and healing work accessible to all.

If you are someone who is able to pay bills reliably, enjoy a meal out, or easily access self-care (like a pedicure, or therapy co-pays) without anxiety, this price is for you. It balances out some of the extra that you have -- be it from family wealth, a partner who helps support your financial wellbeing, hard work + privilege – to support the people in our community who have less access. It is a chance to leverage some of our privilege to contribute to community care.

Community Supported level

Cost:  $250
This is a reduced fee to help make the course accessible to members of our community with limited financial resources. This fee does not cover the full cost of the course.

This is the price you can pay if you will benefit, enjoy or grow from a Seeds of Connection group, but paying one of the higher two prices would prevent you from being able justify the cost.   This price might also feel right for those who have experienced oppression due to their race or gender, as I prioritize scholarships for Black and Indigenous people, as well as transgender folks. Choose this price (with our love) if you need some community care.

How is Art Greenhouse similar to/different from previous Seeds of Connection cycles?

  • Previous group cycles of Seeds of Connection focused on personal growth, healing, and exploration,  with a bit of a "side order" of art journaling.  In Art Greenhouse, the focus will be on art journaling techniques and using it as a tool for fun and for creativity as self-care.  There will be some sharing, and big emotions and real life are ALWAYS welcome in my groups.  I wanted to flip-flop things this way because I really feel like we could all use more creativity, lightness, and joy in our lives right now!  And I truly do feel that art journaling can be easy and accessible.

  • This group container is open to anyone.  Previous Seeds of Connection cycles were typically for women and non-binary folks.  Art Greenhouse is open to everyone who is comfortable in a space that centers people with marginalized gender identities.  Basically if you are a chill human who wants to do some art and isn't going to tromp around like a douche canoe, come on in!!

  • There is MORE awesomeness, MORE creativity, and we are definitely going to make even MORE cool sh*t.  Listen, I've just had time to get more awesome and so have you.  We need each other and we need to have something to focus on and do that will feed us and build our capacity.  Art and creativity and imagination are absolutely CRUCIAL to surviving and thriving in this season.

Let's get our hands dirty! Save your spot in the greenhouse!
