Connect & Create: Gel Plate Summer Camp

Connect & Create events are one-time(ish) meet ups for the folks in our community. They happen from time to time, usually based on my whims or the needs of our virtual village.  We have gathered for a Letting Go Ritual, for Winter BigSuperFun events, junk journals, and more.

Join me in the virtual Seeds of Connection green house this summer! We will be diving into gel plate shenanigans. 

This summer needs a whole lot less despairing doom scrolling and feeling lonely, and a whole lot more nourishing hopeful joy and connection with other creative humans. The Seeds of Connection greenhouse is our space to do that!

DETAILS:  Join me as we gather for summertime community and connection and take a fun dive into all things gel plate. These sessions will be a mix of summer camp art table vibes.  In each session, I'll demo a variety of gel plate techniques for you, and there will be time for you to practice and ask questions. We'll chat and create together and have a little time to show off our creations before we say goodbye.  It wouldn't be summer camp without some games and fun, so watch for a little of that sprinkled in too!

These sessions will have something to offer for gel plate newbies as well as seasoned print-pullers.  All skill levels welcome.  Lots of alternative supplies and techniques will be offered, so you don't have to have the "perfect" pile of supplies to join us.

PLEASE NOTE:  If a session does not meet a minimum of participants, it will be cancelled.  So please GET REGISTERED for the sessions you want to attend so I can keep them on the calendar!

WHAT TO EXPECT:  As always in the Seeds of Connection greenhouse, you can expect fun & connection mixed with artful prompts and instruction. You can follow along with the techniques I demo or you can do your own thing! Each session will include a demo and discussion of at least 2-3 techniques or tools, with time to practice what we are learning.  We'll be learning tricks, making our own tools, and finding items from around the house that will create fun prints.  The outcome of these sessions will be a pile of painty papers that you can use in collage, junk journaling, and more!

WE'LL COVER:

• gel plate overview and basics + what I've learned after more than 8 years of using a gel plate
• variety of paint techniques 
• using stencils and masks
• using mark making tools
• creating our own unique stencils, masks, and mark making tools 
• image transfer
• working with leaves and flowers and other items from nature
• layering images, patterns, and texture
• your questions
• AND SO MUCH MORE!

SUPPLIES:  DO NOT WORRY if you have only the very basics. The main intentions behind these gatherings are having fun and creating in community.

​THE BASICS:

• plain white copy or drawing paper
• acrylic paint
• gel plate (any size)
• brayer

OPTIONAL EXTRAS:

• variety of paper: tissue paper or tea bag paper, colored paper, junk mail, wrapping paper, pages from old books, packing paper, kids homework or coloring book pages (not necessarily ALL of these, just some!)
• magazines with images you like (my best results have come from higher quality magazines like Vogue, Cosmopolitan, wedding magazines, etc)
• stencils
• bubble wrap
• cardstock or thin cardboard
• rubber or foam stamps
• mark making tools (some ideas: kids toys, comb, cotton swabs, string or yarn, textured fabric like burlap or old doilies, corrugated cardboard, buttons, leaves and flowers, palette knife, kitchen tools)
• thin plastic sheets like page protectors or overhead projector sheets

A more detailed supply list will be emailed after you register, including suggestions and my fave tools and supplies.

PLEASE NOTE:  My primary role is not art teacher; I'm a community builder at heart.  The juicy goodness of time in the greenhouse and Seeds of Connection is creating with rad humans and being together.  Recordings of missed sessions will not be available. There are no refunds for missed sessions.  Any sessions cancelled due to low enrollment will be refunded.
